ABOUT G! FESTIVAL
Nestled in the heart of the North Atlantic, the solitary and spellbinding Faroe Islands lie midway between Iceland, Norway and Scotland. G! Festival is situated in the picturesque seaside village of Göta and has redefined the whole musical landscape of the Faroe Islands with its international scale and visionary scope.
The 2005 and 2006 G! Festivals sold all 6,000 tickets, and approximately 2,000-4,000 additional spectators enjoyed concerts from the hills and bay surrounding the festival grounds. In total, that accounts for nearly one-fifth of the entire population of the Faroe Islands!
We are passionate about music and deeply devoted to making people feel at home and happy. That is why we put our minds and souls into creating a positive atmosphere of fellowship and true open-heartedness through G! Festival.
AWARD WINNING G! 2005
In 2005, Jón Tyril, founder and chairman of G! Festival, received the M.A. Jacobsen Distinguished Prize for Cultural Achievement for his work with G! Festival.
The M.A. Jacobsen jury justified their selection with the following statement:
“G! Festival brings leading international and local musicians together for a musical extravaganza against the splendid scenery of the ancient, seaside village of Göta.
As a result, Tyril has created an innovative cultural event that is well received by all.
G! Festival provides a totally new setting for the advancement of Faroese culture and the sense of fellowship and community that is our country's heritage.”
